Anti-democratic strategies go against American values
Former president Donald Trump wrote on his website that avenging his 2020 reelection loss “allows for the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those in The Constitution.”
So, the instigator of the Jan. 6 violent attempt to overthrow that election wants to punish perceived enemies, pardon convicted insurrectionists, vastly expand presidential power, replace civil servants with loyalists, and take full control of the justice system.
Often downplayed is just how much a second Trump presidency could impact the average citizen.
For Trump is merely the avatar of a broad movement — including the religious right, white nationalists, conservative activists, authoritarian-leaning billionaires and foreign governments — that seeks to weaken or replace democracy.
